Grammy nominated R&B artist Jermaine Dupri will be come president of the Urban Music division of Virgin Records. With strings attached. Jermaine Dupri states "By joining So So Def and Virgin, I plan to do for Virgin what Russell Simmons did 10 years ago, when he moved Def Jam to Island Records. I will catapult Virgin into a young, hip label with chart-topping success in both R&B and rap music." As part of this new position, Dupri's "So So Def" label will become a part of Virgin's enterprise. Additionally, he will continue to produce and perform under the new partnership with Virgin. Dupri's Grammy nominations were for his writing work on Usher's "My Boo" and "Burn". According to an MTV report, Dupri is looking at a cool $20 million for the position. This is not the first time a musician has been pulled in as a music executive. Hip-hop allstar Jay-Z became president and CEO of Def Jam Recordings when Island Def Jam Music Group bought out his stake in "Roc-A-Fella".
