The track she teased all summer is out on KNTXT. Every cent goes to club culture.
Charlotte de Witte spent the summer playing a track she would not release. "The Resistance" opened her new audiovisual show at UNVRS Ibiza in May, then scaled up to an XXL version at Rock Werchter in July, 40,000 people inside and outside the tent. The record landed September 24 on her own label, KNTXT. She has been blunt about it. "Never have I ever teased a track this much as I teased 'The Resistance,'" she said. "It's one of the biggest tracks I've ever made." It sounds like it. A juddering theme, a hyperspeed kick, hoover stabs, and Theo Nasa over the top: "We are unity. We are techno." Nasa's raw techno EP Lifeline already came out on KNTXT. This is the statement cut. The EP is four tracks, just under 22 minutes. Charlotte de Witte feat. Theo Nasa, "The Resistance" Charlotte de Witte feat. XSALT, "See Through The Lies" Charlotte de Witte, "Another Place" Charlotte de Witte feat. Theo Nasa, "The Resistance (Intro Version)" XSALT is the familiar voice. He has already been on "No Division," "Overdrive," "Roar," and "How You Move." Here the line is "see through the lies, it's time to take control," over a fast stabbing synth. "Another Place" is the odd one, and the one worth sitting with. de Witte wrote the vocal in Brussels with her friend One Track Brain more than ten years ago, forgot the track, then rebuilt a new production around that original take. Her own voice, whispered and then not. She called the EP "very close to my heart." This is the track that explains why. All proceeds go to The Nighttime Foundation, the nonprofit set up to protect nightlife and the small rooms that feed it. The show already carried a "protect club culture" line. The release puts money on it. Stream or buy it at go.kntxt.be/034.
