An eclectic mix of artists from various genres lined-up for this year's BBC Radio 1 - One Big Weekend. Check out the details on the upcoming festival. BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend is coming to Sunderland, UK from 7th-8th May for an amazing weekend. Top artists will play to 30,000 people next to Penshaw Monument, Herrington Country Park during two days of live bands and world class DJs. The event will be on Radio 1 across the weekend. Radio 1's Big Weekend is a free festival and 15,000 tickets will be available for each day. Radio 1 is holding two ticket giveaways on Saturday 23rd April and Sunday 24th April in the Civic Centre car park, Sunderland. Saturday’s giveaway is for Saturday’s tickets and Sunday’s is for Sunday’s tickets. The ticket office opens at 12pm each day and will close once all the tickets have gone. People are encouraged to get there early to avoid disappointment. Radio 1 DJs including Chris Moyles, Colin and Edith, JK and Joel and Zane Lowe will be introducing the bands on stage and broadcasting live from the event. To get people warmed up for Radio 1’s Big Weekend, the station will also broadcast programmes live from Sunderland in the week leading up to the event. Chris Moyles will broadcast live from Sunderland AFC’s Stadium of Light on Friday 6th May and the legendary Pete Tong will get the weekend started with his show coming from the bar Pure.
