InternetDJ Releases IDJ-97, a Free 90s Rave Synth for VST3, AU and CLAP

The site's first plugin in years is named for 1997, the year InternetDJ started, and is free to download or play in a browser.

InternetDJ has released IDJ-97, a free 90s rave synthesizer for Windows and Mac. It comes as a VST3, AU and CLAP plugin for DAWs including Ableton Live, FL Studio and Logic Pro, plus a standalone app that runs without a DAW. No account is needed to download it, and the same synth also plays in a browser with nothing to install. InternetDJ makes IDJ-97 and the other tools we offer for free like our Studio DAW and DJ Decks apps.

What it does

IDJ-97 is built for the sounds of the late 90s: supersaws, hoovers, acid lines and rave stabs. It has 18 presets, an arpeggiator with a Pedal mode for the classic trance phrases, and a sample layer with orchestra hits and organ stabs. The latest version has live screens for the filter and amp envelope and a rebuilt Acid filter.

A free sample pack is available separately, with the eight one-shots inside the synth as WAV files. They were synthesized from scratch and can be used in released music, sold or not. They can't be resold or given away as a sample pack of their own.

Why the name

InternetDJ started in 1997, and the synth's orange and blue faceplate uses the site's colors from that time. It isn't the site's first free instrument, either. In partnership with Angular Momentum, InternetDJ released PolySynth VST 1.0 as a free download in 2004, followed by the AM VirtuaDrum XL drum machine in 2008.

Where to get it

IDJ-97 and the sample pack are on the IDJ-97 page, where it can also be played online or opened in the free InternetDJ studio.
